Dimensions - Area 1
Step 1: Figure out the square footage of each room in which you want to install laminate-wood floors. To do so, use a tape measure to determine the room’s length and width. Then multiply the length by the width to get your square footage. For instance, if the room is 12 feet wide and 12 feet long, you will need enough flooring for 144 square feet (12×12=144). If your room is oddly shaped, use the longest 2 distances in your measurements. Add more dimensions below.

Appliance Removal
Remove items from your kitchen that could get in the way of your renovation. If you’re also replacing cabinetry, you’ll have to take all of your kitchen supplies out of the room. However, if you’re just replacing the floors, remove your dining table and any chairs in the space. Our flooring technician will help answer any questions regarding freestanding appliances like refrigerators and dishwashers. To avoid damage, remove all wall decorations like photos and mirrors, as well as window curtains. We don’t want to break anything by accident while we rip up the floors.
Tip the unit to one side and slip a furniture mover pad, plastic lid or piece of cardboard under each foot. This limits friction on carpet to make moving the unit easier and helps protect wood, tile or vinyl floors from damage. Repeat this process for the other side of the stacked unit until each foot is protected.

Furniture Removal
Depending on the size of your flooring project, you may have to simply move your furniture to another room or move the items from room to room if you are working on multiple rooms. While moving and carrying furniture this way is a daunting task, it is cheaper and your furniture will not leave the confines of your house. For a bigger project, you may have to temporarily stay elsewhere until the flooring installation is complete.
Existing Floor Removal
If you prefer to remove your present floor covering, do it at least one day prior to installation to allow for cleanup and floor preparation. If removing old carpet, please pull the staples out of the floor from the original pad.

Dust Containment
Gritty construction dust is the bane of any remodeling project or large home repair job, whether you're hiring a contractor or doing the work yourself. Dust can damage furniture and rugs and ruin the finish on a hardwood floor. Plus, as I've seen with nearly every home I've remodeled, dust inevitably finds its way far beyond the work area, traveling on shoes and clothing with the slightest breeze, and even through ductwork. The "dust plan" is the containment strategy every contractor should include as part of his bidding. All cutting with circular saws and chop saws will take place outside, whenever possible.
